DRAFT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Idealstor Selected by POWDR Corporation to Backup Mountains of Critical Data for Ski Resorts
World-class ski resort company signs deal to use Idealstor’s FrankeNAS and Ibac data protection software for all backup and recovery
GAITHERSBURG, MD—February 27, 2006—Idealstor, a leading manufacturer of ejectable disk-to-disk backup solutions, announced today it has been selected by POWDR Corp of Park City, UT to provide secure backup and recovery capabilities for its critical data. An IT team at Park City Mountain Resort, one of North America’s top five ski resorts and a venue for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, will use Idealstor’s FrankeNAS appliance and Ibac data protection software to backup data for the entire family of POWDR vacation resorts including Park City Mountain Resort in Utah, Boreal Ridge and Alpine Meadows in California and Mt. Bachelor in Oregon.
A majority of the IT infrastructure for all POWDR resorts is managed at the data center located at Park City Mountain Resort. Prior to selecting Idealstor, the company had long experienced difficulties restoring from tape, and needed a more robust backup solution to handle increasing amounts of data locally and at their sister resorts. POWDR turned to Idealstor to provide tape free comprehensive system that combines storage, backup, restore, and offsite capabilities for disaster recovery.
POWDR chose the Idealstor FrankeNAS because the organization required up to 1TB of local storage but also needed a backup and restore solution that incorporated offsite storage of backup media. Idealstor’s FrankeNAS is a multi-functional system that combines RAID5 storage for redundant local access to data and ejectable bays to use disks as offsite storage media. The FrankeNAS that POWDR implemented enabled them to store up to 1.1TB of data locally and backup up to 1TB of data to ejectable disk media.
In addition to software for managing backups, Park City Mountain Resort also needed the ability to restore their exchange server at the mailbox level. Ibac allows them to do so by backing up the entire exchange database, and then restore the database, or individual mailboxes or folders when data is needed.
Ibac data protection software speeds up and simplifies the job of backing up critical data, by backing up data in its native format. The software’s Backup Versioning Module (BVM) allows users to run incremental backups and save any changed files in a separate folder corresponding to that date or time. The module virtualizes unchanged files to the original, providing the same experience as if a full backup was run, accomplished in the time and space required usually associated with an incremental backup.
“Large amounts of data are managed at this location, and as we extended the overall IT strategy to include our sister resorts, it became clear that we needed a backup and recovery process that was faster and more reliable than the tape we were using,” said Kenny Lentz, IT Director at Park City Mountain Resort. “Idealstor’s FrankeNAS and Ibac software provides us with the speed and the dependability we were searching for, and allows us to work with only one company for the entire solution.”
“Idealstor will be the key to allowing POWDR Corp to centrally manage, host and backup more applications from their resorts to the Park City data center,” said Ben Ginster, Channel Marketing Manager for Idealstor. “We feel this customer win further validates the strength of our offerings and highlights the undeniable trend that organizations of all types have come to realize the importance that disk will play in both onsite and offsite backup schemes.”
Idealstor is the leading manufacturer of removable disk to disk backup solutions. The Idealstor Backup Appliance is a disk-to disk-backup that allows users to backup to disk and remove the disks and take them offsite just like they would tape. Idealstor is also the developer of Ibac Data Protection Software. Ibac is designed for any environment and backups up data quickly in its -native format. Idealstor’s aim is to take away the headaches, pain and expenses normally associated with tape based backup systems and offer you peace of mind.
